The Duke of Sussex will not be allowed to wear military uniform at his grandmother Queen Elizabeth's funeral, it has been reported. Harry is no longer a working royal, having stepped back to build a life in America with his wife, Meghan, and children.
The Daily Telegraph has reported that this means he will not wear military uniform during the funeral and at ceremonial events leading up to it. The same will apply to the Queen's son Andrew, Duke of York, although he will wear military uniform at the final vigil at his mother's coffin in Westminster Hall. That is likely to be the full military dress uniform of a Vice Admiral of the Navy, as that is the only military rank which he still holds
Earlier this afternoon, all four of the Queen's children walked behind the hearse carrying her coffin as it made its way to St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh. Only working members of the royal family are being permitted to wear military uniform.
That meant that King Charles, the Princess Royal and Prince Edward all wore their uniforms as they followed the car, while Andrew wore a morning suit with medals.
Both Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have served in the military. Harry completed two tours of Afghanistan and Andrew in the Falklands.
As he he followed the coffin this afternoon, the King wore full day ceremonial uniform with the rank of Field Marshal. The Princess Royal wore Royal Navy full ceremonial uniform in the rank of Admiral and the Earl of Wessex wore the Blues Uniform of the Honorary Royal Colonel of the Wessex Yeomanry.
