England made history when they ended a remarkable 2022 by beating Pakistan 3-0, becoming the first team to ever whitewash Pakistan at home.
Despite the magnitude of such an achievement, England's player of the series Harry Brook was not surprised, such is the confidence, belief and style they are now playing with under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum.
Brook enjoyed a dream tour of Pakistan, smashing a century in every Test and racking up 468 runs at an average of 93.60. And when asked what his reaction would have been, had he been told before the series began that England would beat Pakistan 3-0, Brook perfectly summed up the impact Stokes and McCullum have had on the team's mindset.
"I'd have probably believed it to be honest... the way the boys are playing," he told BBC Test Match Special. "Stokesy said last night the amount of belief that he has in everybody and the amount of belief that everybody has in each other is phenomenal. So I think I would have said 'yeah, I agree'."
Brook was only given an opportunity to play as a result of a freak injury to Jonny Bairstow, the hero of England's summer, who broke his leg in three places and dislocated his ankle while playing golf.
And Brook's success means England have a real selection dilemma on their hands once Bairstow returns from his injury. "The way the team has been playing, I think I fit in quite well here," Brook said.
"Jonny is a phenomenal player and I'm sure he will be coming back. I'll be happy to move around the order, I just want to play cricket for England and I'm still going to bat the same way.
"I've been out here [to Pakistan] a couple of times. It's quite lucky that I started my Test career out here and adapting to conditions as soon as possible.
"It is a good feeling to come out here and do something no other team has done. We all put our hard work in and we've been phenomenal."
