Harry and Prince Charles 'rebuilding bridges' with secret reunion at Windsor Castle, according to royal expert

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have begun to rebuild bridges with the Queen after the secret reunion at Windsor Castle, according to a royal expert.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex flew into the UK this morning, for a secret face-to-face meeting with the monarch and are also said to have made a point of seeing Prince Charles during the reunion trip, as reports the Mirror.

The Sun Online reported on the couple's first trip to the UK since they quit royal duty in March 2020.

The Sussex's much publicised interview with Oprah Winfrey caused friction when Harry talked of his “disappointment” in his dad.

In the chat he said Prince Charles was not taking his phone calls and had financially cut him off.

Harry also suggested Charles and his brother William were "trapped" in the Royal Family system and told Oprah: "I am part of the system with them, I always have been, but I guess—and I’m very aware of this—my brother can’t leave that system, but I have”.

Following the chat, Charles and William were said to be "very angry" Prince Harry put words into their mouths.

Royal biographer Phil Dampier now reckons the latest meet is Harry's way of “slowly [starting] to rebuild some bridges”

He said: “I think Harry has realised that it looked very bad that he didn’t come to Prince Philip ’s memorial service and perhaps he’s having second thoughts about how he's been playing things,” he said.

“He’s obviously decided he wanted to see his grandmother and I’m sure she was pleased to see him

“Most of all I’m sure Charles was happy as I'm sure he would like to repair their relationship.”

He added: “seems to have been the first tentative step in repairing their relationship” and said it “would have been nice” if Prince William was able to see him as well.

He thought they were “finally rebuilding some bridges,”

The couple were in the UK as they went to the Invictus Games in Holland and attended the traditional Maundy Thursday ceremony.

The couple missed late Prince Philip's memorial service last month, but smiled and waved at stunned onlookers.

One witness said: "I couldn’t believe it when I saw who it was."

Harry and Meghan stopped as working royals in March 2020and now live in California with their two children.

Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, said the the visit is an "olive branch" and "wonderful opportunity to clear the air".

She added: “After everything that has gone on it must have taken a lot for Harry and Meghan to go to Windsor."

Maundy Thursday , she added, is "about forgiveness", with the monarch "not one to hold grudges".

It's unknown if Archie, two, and 11-month-old daughter Lilibet are also in the UK.
