Harry and Meghan urged to return to charity work as their popularity 'hinges' on it

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been encouraged to return to their passionate charity projects as their popularity "hinges on charitable causes".

PR expert and GoUp's chief executive Edward Coram-James has discussed how the royal couple could continue to see their popularity grow through more respectable work despite their £18m Spotify deal being axed last week.

Coram-James has urged the Duke and Duchess to consider taking on some "important work around internationally important subjects" and returning to their work on issues concerning army veterans, marginalised communities and women's rights, the Express reports.

The expert told the publication: "For all of their setbacks, the Sussexes are still involved in and committed to some incredibly important work around internationally important subjects. Environmentalism. The protection of women, marginalised communities, and children.

"Work with veterans, such as the hugely popular and successful Invictus games- the brainchild of Prince Harry and the result of years of his hard graft. The return of their popularity hinges on these charitable causes."

He went on to praise the couple who he opined have always seemed "completely genuine" when it comes to their charitable projects.

He explained: "They seem committed to them not out of a desire for popularity, but because they are projects that they care deeply about. This much shines through."

Offering them advice, he suggested: "If they keep their heads below the parapets for a period of time, perhaps two years, and focus on making real headway with those projects, while also making some great, scandal free and successful productions, then there is a road for recovery."

He added that he believes that the Sussexes "can find this road too."

One significant charitable venture that Prince Harry has under his belt is the Invictus Games which he founded in 2014 with the event being viewed as a tremendous success.

The Games is an international multi-sport event for sick, wounded and injured servicemen and women, both serving and veterans.

After stepping down from the majority of her patronages following the couple's departure from the Firm in 2020, Meghan continued to work as patron of two charitable organisations.

One year after their exit from the royal family, Buckingham Palace issued a statement to confirm that the Duchess would continue her work with Mayhew and Smart Works.

Despite their Spotify deal being axed, the couple still have multi-million pound deals with Netflix and Penguin Random House.
