Harry and Meghan's Netflix show crowned UK's most-watched subscription TV series

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's bombshell Netflix documentary has beaten some fierce competition to be named the UK's most-watched subscription TV series of the year.

The six episode docuseries was released in two parts and saw the Duke and Duchess of Sussex discuss harassment during palace-organised press calls, unconscious bias and their life since leaving the UK.

The first episode, which told the story of the royal couple's courtship, was watched by an average of 4.5million people in its first week.

In comparison, the premiere episode of The Crown's new series reached an average of 2.8million people.

Harry and Meghan's docuseries also dwarfed other big Netflix releases including Stranger Things (3.9million) and Bridgerton (3.4million).

The viewing figures, which were released by audience research organisation Barb, also show how Meghan and Harry dominated shows on Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video.

Episode one of Star Wars spinoff Obi-Wan Kenobi was the most-watched show on Disney+ with an audience of 3.1 million people in the seven days after its release back in May.

Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power was the highest-viewed show on Amazon Prime Video, attracting an audience of 3.2million for its first episode.

Meghan & Harry, directed by Liz Garbus, is the first project to emerge from the multi-year deal the couple signed with Netflix after they quit as working royals back in 2020.

The deal is thought to be around $100million.

Earlier this week, the pair teased their latest Netflix series, which will be released at the end of the month.

They will present and are the executive producers of a show called Live to Lead - a documentary series that has been inspired by the legacy of Nelson Mandela.

According to Netflix, the series, which will drop on December 31, will see leaders and activists "reflect on their legacies and share messages of courage, compassion, humility, hope".

The show has been produced in a collaboration between the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Blackwell & Ruth as well as Harry and Meghan's Archewell Productions.

A trailer for the series shows Harry explaining: "This was inspired by Nelson Mandela, who once said what counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived.

Before Meghan adds: "But what difference we have made to the lives of others to determine the significance of the life we lead."
