Harry and Meghan's Netflix plans ruined after Queen misses service, claims expert

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's blockbuster Netflix plans have been quashed after the Queen missed a Jubilee event, an expert has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended a royal engagement in the UK for the first time since they quit as senior royals in January 2020 as they marked the monarch's Platinum Jubilee with a service of thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral.

The huge crowds that were gathered outside the cathedral could be heard cheering as the couple arrived this morning.

Meghan was wearing a cream dress and matching hat and arrived shortly after 11am.

The couple were seen holding hands as they were escorted to their seats next to other members of the royal family inside the cathedral.

The Sussexes are staying at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor while visiting from California and watched yesterday's flypast from Horse Guards Parade instead of the Buckingham Palace balcony.

It's after the Queen decided that only working members of the Royal Family would join her to watch the flypast, and the pair are expected to keep a somewhat low profile over the four-day bank holiday.

The Queen announced late last night that she wouldn't be attending today's thanksgiving service after suffering from "some discomfort" yesterday.

However, speaking to Dan Wootton on his GB News show, royal biographer Tom Bower suggested that the Queen’s cancellation may hamper the Sussexes’ publicity plans, the Daily Star reports.

“I do think it’s a terrible shame that the Queen can’t go to St Paul's,” he said.

“But it does mean that Netflix can’t get the pan from Meghan to the Queen, that’s cut out now.”

The GB news presenter agreed, adding: "Can we just be honest about why this couple has come over here?

“They’ve had a stark realisation over the past couple of months, haven’t they, that these big American companies are only interested in them because of their proximity to the Royal Family.”

It was revealed before the Jubilee celebrations got underway that the Netflix crew following Harry and Meghan would be stopped by palace enforcers if they tried to film parts of the celebrations.

Insiders reportedly feared that tension could "explode" if the streaming service tries to "exploit" the Platinum Jubilee.

It's feared that their £112m deal with Netflix could cause problems if crew members "push it" to get access other royals are not comfortable with.

Before their arrival in the UK, a palace insider told The Sun : “While the family are delighted Harry and Meghan are coming, there is a real fear of tension, especially over any Netflix crew.

"There are concerns tension could explode if the Netflix team comes to the UK and tries to exploit their opportunities.

“The worry is they will push it and try to gain access to areas of Jubilee celebration events where they can film Harry and Meghan and their children."

Harry and Meghan's arrival at St Paul's was followed by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. They were without Prince George, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte who all attended yesterday's celebrations.

Prince William and Kate, who was wearing a warm, yellow dress, were also met with loud cheers from the crowd, as were Prince Charles and Camilla.

A number of former prime ministers attended, including Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Theresa May, as did current PM Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie.
