Harry and Meghan's emotional night after Queen's funeral and plans for future

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle both played significant roles during the Queen's Funeral held yesterday at Westminster Abbey.

The Duke of Sussex walked in the procession behind his grandmother's coffin through both London and Windsor Castle, with the Duchess joining processions through Westminster Abbey and St George's Chapel.

The couple, who stepped down as senior royals to start a new life in America with their children, are known to have a strained relationship with the rest of the royal family. Since leaving the UK, they have spoken openly about their decision to quit royal life, including a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

During the sit-down chat, they accused one unnamed royal of making a racist comment about Archie before he was born and said that The Firm failed to support Meghan as she struggled with suicidal thoughts. However, since the Queen's death two weeks ago, they have reunited with the royal family to mourn the loss of Her Majesty, the Mirror reports.

So what did they do once the funeral was over? The couple was last seen in public as they left St George's Chapel looking drained with Harry puffing out his cheeks.

Afterwards, it seems they would have attended a private burial service for the Queen, which was attended by family members and those closest to her. According to The Times, they then spent Monday night at Windsor following this service but may not stay in the UK for much longer.

This is because they intend to fly back to their home in California as soon as they can so they can be reunited with their children Archie, three, and one-year-old Lilibet. Despite a turbulent relationship over the past few years, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and other members of the royal family have been united in grief after the Queen’s death.

This has prompted questions over the possibility of a reconciliation between Harry, his brother the Prince of Wales and their father King Charles III. Despite reports of a rift between the two brothers, William and Harry remained cordial to each other and were seen speaking regularly during the visit.

It came after the King acknowledged the couple in his address to the nation the day after his mother died, saying: “I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas.”

Prior to the Queen’s funeral, Harry and Meghan attended her Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June but kept out of the limelight for the majority of the weekend. It is as yet unclear whether they will attend the coronation of Charles III and it remains to be seen whether differences will be put aside in a bid to heal the rift for good and if this would signal a return to them becoming a more permanent fixture once more in future royal events.
