Harry and Meghan on Netflix: When did Harry and Meghan get married and when did they leave the Royal Family

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Netflix documentary is now streaming on Netflix and the first three episodes are being binged across the globe, but when did the famous royal-not-royal couple tie the knot and how long was it before the pair decided to leave the everyday royal life?

The couple's new Netflix series is the first project to emerge from their multi-year deal with the streaming platform. According to Mirror Online, it has been reported that their deal is worth up to $100 million.

In addition to their Netflix series, the Duchess of Sussex has also recently been working on her new Archetypes Podcast on Spotify. The first season included interviews with the likes of Serena Williams, Mariah Carey and Jameela Jamil.

After first meeting in 2016 after being introduced by a friend, the now Duke and Duchess of Sussex were engaged just over a year later. On Monday, November 27 2017 the then Prince of Wales, Charles, announced the engagement of his son Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle.

A little more than six months later, Harry and Meghan tied the knot at St George's Chapel, Windsor on Saturday, May 19 2018. Prince William was best man and King Charles walked the bride down the aisle. Famous guests like Oprah Winfrey, David Beckham, George and Amal Clooney sat side-by-side with royals.

Fast forward nearly two years and Harry and Meghan announced they were 'stepping back' as senior royals. A statement released on their now defunct Instagram account at the time read, "After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages."

The so-called 'Megxit' which was announced on January 8, 2020, and saw the pair leave the UK for Canada before settling in California with their son, Archie, and now daughter, Lilibet, at the end of March 2020.
