Harry and Meghan odds to lose royal titles revealed

After their controversial Netflix series, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are odds on to lose their titles, the Express reports. In the documentary, Prince Harry launched criticism at the royals and his brother and heir to the throne Prince William.

With the series appearing to cement the souring of Harry's relationship with his family, betting platform OLGB has put the couple losing their titles at 2/1. The couple to split is currently at 5/1, to relocate back to the UK at 10/1, and more humorously Meghan to run for president at 100/1.

Whether the couple lose their royal titles has been speculated upon for months now. A group of Conservative MPs called for their titles to be taken away following the first part of the Netflix documentary series was released earlier this month.

Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely announced plans to bring forward a bill to have Harry and Meghan's titles removed for "trashing" the monarchy. He said: “There is a political issue. As well as trashing his family and monetising his misery for public consumption, he is also attacking some important institutions in this country.”

East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton concurred, tweeting he was "ashamed" Harry and Meghan bear the title of the country his constituency is situated in. He said: “As a Member of Parliament for a Sussex constituency, and having been born in Sussex and lived most of my life here, I am ashamed that this deeply embarrassing couple bear the title of our great county.

Despite members of his party eager to see Harry and Meghan stripped of their titles, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak appeared to dismiss the idea. Downing Street said on the issue: “I believe you are referring to a Private Member’s Bill which we do not support.”

The Sussexes criticism of the royals is set to continue, with Prince Harry's memoir titled 'Spare' set for release on 10 January. The book's publishers have labelled it a "landmark publication" that will tell Harry's story with “raw, unflinching honesty”.
