Prince Harry and Meghan have been invited to appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, according to reports.
The Duke visited the Queen at Windsor Castle, on Thursday, as he travelled to the Netherlands for the Invictus Games, later saying it “was great to see” his 95-year-old grandmother.
He told the BBC: “She had plenty of messages for Team UK which I’ve already passed on to most of them so it was great to see her. I’m sure she’d love to be here if she could.”
The brief visit to Windsor Castle is thought to be the first time the couple have made an appearance in the UK for two years.
According to the Telegraph, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been invited to appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
However, because they resigned as working royals, Harry and Meghan would not be allowed to take part in Trooping the Colour or in other major events during the four-day bank holiday, the paper reported.
It is said that the invitation, if taken, would mean a lot to Her Majesty, amid a bitter fallout within ‘the firm’ since a bombshell TV interview last year.
The couple reportedly told the Queen of their plans to visit again so she can spend time with her great-grandchildren.
The Queen is yet to meet her great-granddaughter, 11-month-old Lilibet, who is named in the Queen’s honour.
As the surprise visit occurred, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were reported to be holidaying in the French Alps with their children.
Prince William and Kate were said to be staying in the resort of Courcheval, with a picture appearing to show them watching their eldest son, Prince George, enjoy a skiing lesson.
The Queen, who turns 96 on Thursday, is likely to miss out on several of the events during the four-day Platinum Jubilee bank holiday to celebrate her 70 years on the throne because of her mobility issues.
Instead, Prince Charles may represent her at the events she cannot attend under plans being drawn up by aides.
The monarch has missed several events in recent months, including the traditional Maundy Thursday service last week.
