Harry and Meghan celebrate daughter Lilibet's first birthday as the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations continue

As the Queen's Jubilee celebrations continue, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are marking their daughter Lilibet's first birthday. Lilibet, who was born June 4, 2021, at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California was named in honour of Queen Elizabeth.

The royal family sent out a birthday message to Lilibet amid the Jubilee celebrations on Saturday morning. Posting on Twitter, the royal family account said: "Wishing Lilibet a very Happy 1st Birthday!"

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as well as the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall also posted their own well-wishes for Lilibet's birthday on Twitter.

Elsewhere, Meghan’s hairdresser George Northwood posted pictures on Instagram of her and Harry. He wrote: “So nostalgic and wonderful to be reunited Harry, Meghan and their family in the UK. Archie has grown to be the cutest, well-mannered little boy and Lilibet is just beautiful."

The Queen was nicknamed Lilibet by her family when Princess Elizabeth was just a toddler as she was unable to pronounce her name properly. It became a term of affection, often used by her grandfather King George V and other family members.

One-year-old Lilibet also has the middle name Diana, chosen to honour the memory of her late grandmother. Neither Lilibet nor her older brother Archie, three, have been publicly seen during any Jubilee celebration so far.

The Queen is expected to gather with other members of the royal family to celebrate Lilibet's christening at Windsor Castle. Royal commentator Omid Scobie speculated that Thursday was likely to have been the “first moment or the first chance for her (the Queen) to meet her namesake”.

The author of Finding Freedom told BBC Breakfast on Friday that Harry and Meghan “want to be as low profile as possible during this trip”.
