Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have landed in Vancouver, Canada as they visit the country for an Invictus Games event, amid claims the Royal Family were ‘not consulted’ over their new website.
The couple landed in Vancouver on Tuesday after a two-hour flight from Santa Barbara.
They are visiting the Vancouver Whistler 2025 One Year to Go celebrations from Wednesday to Friday ahead of the event for wounded service personnel next year.
The Duke and Duchess are set to visit the participating nations training camp, which is hosting 55 participants from over nineteen nations.
Athletes are training at the winter camp for new sports to be featured in the games such as wheelchair curling and Nordic skiing.
The Games, which will take place in February 2025, will be the first to feature winter sports.
Canada is familiar to the royal couple, with Harry and Meghan making their first public appearance at the Invictus Games in 2017.
The Duchess of Sussex lived in Toronto while she was filming the US legal drama, Suits, and the couple were dating.
When they decided to stand down as senior working royals, they first moved to Vancouver Island, with the Duke of Sussex describing the area in his autobiography as giving him a “taste of freedom”.
It comes as Harry and Meghan risked a fresh row with the Royal Family by launching a new website using their Sussex title.
Their rebrand from the Archewell website, Sussex.com, appears to emphasise their royal status, with a royal coat of arms, and the message: “The office of Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”
A source told the Daily Mail the use of the royal crest and Sussex titles could spark complaints from the Royal Family.
However, a source close to Harry and Meghan said: “Prince Harry and Meghan are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. That is a fact. It is their surname and family name.”
Sources have since said the couple did not consult palace officials about using their Sussex titles on the website.
Buckingham Palace did not comment but The Mirror reported that it understood the couple did not consult officials before launching the new endeavour.A biography for Prince Harry on the page doesn’t mention the Royal Family, instead describing Harry as ‘‘a humanitarian, military veteran, mental health advocate, and environmental campaigner’’.
The new website links to the couple’s non-profit organisation, the Archewell Foundation, and production company, Archewell Productions.
The name ‘Archewell’ had replaced the couple’s ‘Sussex Royal’ brand after the late Queen Elizabeth banned the couple from using it when they stepped away from royal duty four years ago.
