Harrods Apologizes For Allegations Of Abuse By Former Owner

Former Harrods employees accuse Al Fayed of sexual assault, including rape.

Harrods, the prestigious London department store, has expressed deep shock and dismay over allegations of abuse, including rape, involving its former owner, the late billionaire Mohamed Al Fayed.

According to a comprehensive investigation, more than 20 female ex-Harrods employees have come forward with accusations of sexual assault against Al Fayed, who passed away last year at the age of 94. The disturbing accounts include incidents dating back several years, with one victim reporting being assaulted at the age of 15 by Al Fayed when he was 79.

The alleged assaults are said to have occurred at various locations, including Al Fayed's luxury apartment in London, the Ritz hotel in Paris (which he owned), and Villa Windsor in Paris, a property associated with the Duke of Windsor and his wife.

Al Fayed, known for his ownership of Harrods and tragically losing his son Dodi Fayed in the 1997 car crash that also claimed the life of Princess Diana, has been accused of using his power to exploit and abuse women.

Former Harrods employees have revealed that Al Fayed's behavior towards women was widely known within the department store, with one former manager stating that it was an open secret.

In response to the allegations, Harrods issued a public apology to the victims, emphasizing that the organization under Al Fayed's ownership (1985-2010) was fundamentally different from the current establishment. The company denounced Al Fayed's actions and acknowledged its failure to protect employees who were subjected to his abuse.

Harrods disclosed that new information regarding historic sexual abuse allegations involving Al Fayed emerged last year. The store has since prioritized swift resolution of claims to avoid prolonged legal proceedings for the affected women, offering support to current and former employees seeking recourse.

Harrods reiterated its commitment to addressing the past wrongs and ensuring a safe and respectful workplace environment for all individuals associated with the iconic department store.
