Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has issued a strong response to former President Donald Trump’s recent comments at the National Association of Black Journalists convention. The campaign criticized Trump for his personal attacks and insults directed at Black journalists, stating that his behavior mirrored his actions throughout his presidency.
The campaign’s communications director, Michael Tyler, condemned Trump’s hostility on stage, accusing him of seeking to regain power and promote his divisive agenda. Tyler highlighted Trump’s history of attacking Black journalists and failing to address the needs of Black families during his time in office.
Specifically, the campaign did not directly address Trump’s false suggestion that Harris “happened to turn Black” when questioned about her appeal to Black voters. Trump’s remarks came in response to a query about his past racist comments and behavior towards political rivals.
During the convention, Trump faced questions about why Black voters should trust him given his track record of racist remarks and associations with elements of his political movement. Trump defended himself, claiming he had never been asked such a question in such a negative manner before.
The Harris campaign’s rapid response team has been actively sharing clips of Trump’s NABJ appearance on social media, aiming to highlight his controversial statements for voters to consider.
