Harris Campaign Releases Spanish-Language Ad Defending Puerto Rico

U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm visits Puerto Rico

The Harris campaign has unveiled a new Spanish-language ad aimed at Puerto Rico following an offensive remark made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at a recent rally for former President Donald Trump in New York City. The ad, entirely in Spanish, addresses the derogatory comment made by Hinchcliffe, who referred to Puerto Rico as 'a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean' during the event at Madison Square Garden.

The narrator of the ad emphasizes the rich cultural heritage of Puerto Rico, highlighting the island's contributions in various fields such as science, literature, education, entertainment, and heroism. The message conveyed is one of pride and resilience, asserting that Puerto Ricans are not to be demeaned but celebrated for their accomplishments.

The ad takes a dig at Trump, suggesting that he will come to realize the true value of Puerto Rico and its people. It juxtaposes images of Hinchcliffe, Trump, and Sen. JD Vance with footage of individuals proudly waving the Puerto Rican flag. Additionally, the ad includes a brief clip of Trump's controversial act of throwing paper towels to hurricane-stricken residents in Puerto Rico following the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in 2017.

The Harris campaign plans to broadcast the ad on various Spanish-language TV networks such as Univision, Telemundo, and WAPA America, as well as during popular telenovelas to reach Puerto Rican and Latino voters. In addition to television airings, the ad will also be featured on digital platforms including El Nuevo Día, YouTube, YouTube Shorts, and Snapchat, aiming to engage a wider audience and amplify the message of empowerment and solidarity with the Puerto Rican community.
