Outside linebacker Harold Landry played a key role in the Tennessee Titans’ elite front four in 2021, and he believes that same group can “lead the charge” to a Super Bowl in 2022.
Landry, who signed a five-year, $87.5 million contract extension, tallied 12 sacks in 2021, a career-high, and Tennessee’s pass-rush as a whole, which also featured Jeffery Simmons and Denico Autry, played a major part in the team’s regular season success.
Unfortunately, despite nine sacks (Landry had 1.5 of them) in the playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, the Titans fell short of their ultimate goal to win a Super Bowl.
Going into 2022, the Boston College product says the Titans are “real confident” they have the team to win a title, and he believes it’s the front four that can lead the way, per Ben Arthur of The Tennessean:
“We’re real confident that we have the team to go out to win the Super Bowl. I think our front four can lead the charge,” Landry said. “That’s another reason why I came back here, because the culture here is a winning culture. It’s a proven, winning culture. That was really important to me because we know we have the team to do it.”
In recent days, the Titans’ schedule just got a lot harder after the Denver Broncos, one of Tennessee’s home opponents for 2022, acquired Russell Wilson in a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks.
But as difficult as Tennessee’s schedule will be overall in terms of the quarterbacks they’ll face, Landry rightly notes that the best recipe to overcoming that talent is through the pass-rush.
“We see all these quarterbacks taking their game to the next level each year and we just have to do the same,” Landry said. “That’s what this game is about. You got a dominant front four, you have a chance to win any game.
“We got some dogs on our front four,” Landry continued. “And I just feel like none of us are ever content, we’re always hungry, always looking to improve. And I think that’s the most important thing. I think all four of us kind of share that same mindset as to every time we step on the field, we want to be the best players on the field. I just think that’s a characteristic you need to lead the charge and to have that impact on a team to go out and win a Super Bowl.”
Landry says his newly-signed contract extension shows the Titans have faith and trust in him, something he’s grateful for, according to Jim Wyatt of Titans Online:
“My motivation,” Landry said, “is when I step on the field, I want to be considered the best player on the field. So, that is the motivation. The money, I am extremely blessed and grateful that this organization believes in me, and gave me this contract. But I feel like the money is a byproduct of the work that I put in to achieve the goal of being considered one of the best players in the NFL.
“All of this, I am just feeling so blessed and grateful and thankful for the life that I get to live and experience, with the awesome family that I have. … And I am so thankful that this organization has the faith and trust they have in me. I am just extremely grateful and thankful for all of this.”
