Haringey: Man in 30s fighting for his life after being stabbed repeatedly in street brawl

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being stabbed repeatedly in a huge street brawl in north London.

The victim, in his 30s, managed to take himself to hospital after reports of a group of people fighting in Lordship Lane, Haringey at 8.10pm on Tuesday.

A police search of the area close to Wood Green Crown Court failed to identify any suspects or victims.

The man remains in hospital in a “life-threatening” condition, police said.

A takeaway worker said he barricaded himself in with customers after the “huge” fight broke out. He told The Standard: “I came outside and someone was shouting they had been stabbed. It was dark so it was hard to see.

“There was so much screaming and shouting people were running everywhere.

“I was scared and so were my customers so I pulled down the shutters to keep them safe. It happens a lot.“Last time bullets were flying in to my shop, it stuck with me I didn’t want it to happen again.”

He added: “We are always worried. My friend in the bakery was killed and a woman was shot in the leg at the Caribbean restaurant a couple of years ago.”

The scene around a betting shop remains cordoned off with a trail of blood stretching for over 100 metres.

No arrests have been made.

In 2015, Erdogan Guzel, 42, was sipping a coffee at a table at the pavement café next to his bakery in Lordship Lane, when he was struck in the chest and killed in a hail of gunfire from a semi-automatic rifle.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Police were called at 20:11hrs on Tuesday, 27 September to reports of a group of people fighting in Lordship Lane, N22.

“Officers attended and carried out a search of the area. No suspects or victims were identified.

“A short while later, a man, aged in his 30s, attended a north London hospital with stab wounds. He remains in a life-threatening condition.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances and a crime scene remains in place. No arrests have been made.”
