Hard working Lanarkshire man gets career back on track thanks to government scheme

A hard working Lanarkshire man got his career back on track thanks to a government scheme.

Joe Vincent, from Motherwell, struggled to find employment after losing his job at a garage during the pandemic.

The 22-year-old had been diagnosed with anxiety, ADHD and Asperger’s Syndrome, and needed to find an employer who could accommodate this and give support when needed.

He joined the Fair Start Scotland programme, delivered by Remploy, in August 2021.

Karen Campbell, Joe’s In-Work Support Key Worker, worked with him intensively to find a new full-time position, and within a week, he had secured a role at a local cinema.

Over the next 12 months, Joe received continuous support from Karen, who contacted him on a weekly basis to check on his progress and offer extra help or advice if needed.

This included in-person support when issues arose at work.

Joe has now celebrated his one year in-work milestone, during which he has progressed his career and started a new role as a Customer Service Advisor at the Motherwell branch of insurance company Policy Expert.

Joe told Lanarkshire Live : “Working with Remploy has been great, I’ve had continuous support from my key worker during my time working at the cinema and now at Policy Expert.

“When I was struggling with a situation in my past job, Karen immediately organised a meeting to see how she could help. Thanks to everyone at Remploy for all the help and support over the last year.”

Collette Finn, Head of Service at Policy Expert, has been delighted at Joe’s progress since joining her team.

“Since joining our team Joe has been an incredible asset,” said Collette.

“Joe had no insurance knowledge when he joined, but immediately applied himself and took full advantage of our training to learn as much as possible.

“He is always looking to expand his knowledge and improve, and I believe Joe will have a very successful career here at Policy Expert.”
