International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8 every year. It celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women all around the world.
The theme for this year's Women's Day 2023 is "DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality". "This theme is aligned with the priority theme for the upcoming 67th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-67), “Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls”, the UN report says.
The first National Woman's Day was observed in the United States on 28 February. The Socialist Party of America designated this day in honour of the 1908 garment workers' strike in New York, where women protested against working conditions. Clara Zetkin is said to have founded International Women's Day in 1910.
It was first celebrated in 1911, in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. This year the world will observe the 111th International Women's Day.
