Happy Valley fans spot massive clue that Catherine Cawood will die in BBC drama

Happy Valley fans are slowly but surely becoming convinced that Catherine Cawood will die - after spotting a massive clue in the BBC drama.

Viewers around the UK were overjoyed to see the show return after six years off the air - and watch Catherine Cawood - played by Sarah Lancashire - continue her escapades across West Yorkshire with the police.

But they have been left completely devastated, pointing out a seemingly 'throwaway' scene which hinted the end for the sergeant.

The Mirror reports that some fans of the BBC drama noted that the writers were hinting at Catherine meeting her demise, as the show aired some big scenes which saw Tommy Lee Royce escape custody during his sentencing. Last night's episode, the fourth, saw a huge cliffhanger as Tommy - played by James Norton - managed to abscond from custody during his sentencing.

There was a fight in the courtroom halls and he managed to escape by distracting security staff. Shouting 'I'm police', he ran out of the courtroom before the doors were locked behind him. He headed into a newsagents, before disguising himself as a cyclist and heading back out into the world - but what will happen next, and will there be a confrontation in store between him and Sergeant Cawood in coming episodes.

However, Happy Valley fans have been left distracted by spotting a seemingly 'throwaway' scene that they are convinced confirms that Catherine will die in shock scenes - as they noticed a continued comment throughout the episode. Viewers noted a scene where two officers were discussing Sergeant Cawood's retirement.

One had said there was a 'whip round' and £2,000 had been donated to the fund, with the other joking even people she had arrested had been donating. Some, though, believe the constant references to retiring mean she won't make it that far.

"They keep bringing up Catherine retirement which means she isn’t making it to retirement," one wrote, as a second added on social media: "Something is telling me Catherine won't be getting this retirement party."

A third shared: "So with all this retirement talk are both Tommy and Catherine gonna end up dead… #HappyValley."

Happy Valley is set in West Yorkshire's Calder Valley, and follows Sarah's character Catherine as she deals with police matters from small petty theft to murder. The third series began with the discovery of the remains of a gangland figure in a drained reservoir.
