Happy Mondays confirmed to play at Primal Scream's Cardiff gig

Happy Mondays will be playing in support at Primal Scream's Cardiff Castle gig on Friday, July 22. The confirmation from gig promoters Live Nation comes after the band shared that they would still be performing on their Facebook page.

Their performance comes after the sad death of member Paul Ryder and they are sure to get a warm Welsh welcome, too, as it is their first performance.

Founder member Paul is the brother of Shaun Ryder and the band released a statement on their Facebook page last week, which said: "The Ryder family and Happy Mondays band members are deeply saddened and shocked to say that Paul Ryder passed away this morning. A true pioneer and legend. He will be forever missed. We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time. Long live his funk."

Other than the big alteration of venue from the Bay to the Castle, the event was initially due to start at 2.30pm, now it's at 6pm. Hot Chip have also been removed from the bill. Peter Hook & The Light's support set has been changed to a DJ set. You can find out more information about the gig with Primal Scream, here.

Ticketmaster have been approached by WalesOnline about fans asking for refunds over the alterations to the show.
