Hartalika Teej is celebrated mostly in the many parts of the northern states of the country like Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Rajasthan. It is also celebrated in Maharashtra. The Hartalika Teej is observed to welcome the season of Bhadrapada in Hindu calendar.
Women worship Lord Parvati and Lord Shiva on this day and observe this day with utmost reverence, sincerity and devotion.
Hartalika Teej 2022 will be observed on August 30, 2022.
On this day, women worship the Gods and pray for the well being of their family. The puja is done with sincerity and it is believed that anyone who does it with utmost devotion gets the best result.
The word Hartalika is a combination of two words: harit which means abduction and aalika which means a female riend. Mythology holds that on the third day of the shukla paksha of Bhadrapad month, Parvati, who was also incarnated as Shailaputri, made a Shiva Lingam and had worshipped it. Pleased with her devotion, Lord Shiva had married her.
On this day, women pray to Lord Parvati and Lord Shiva and listen to stories and folk tales of their wedding. Women also observe fast on this day, called the nishivasar nirjala vrat which begins from the evening of the Hartalika Teej and continues till the next day.
