'Happy chappy' Lewis Capaldi opens up about new girlfriend for the first time

Singer songwriter, Lewis Capaldi, has opened up about his new romance with girlfriend Ellie MacDowall as he confesses to being a 'happy chappy'.

The 26-year-old has hid his relationship from the limelight after the pair were spotted cosying up at the Brit Awards afterparty in February this year.

However, speaking with Radio 2 DJ Scott Mills, the Scottish star was ready to discuss his new found love, reports the Daily Record.

Lewis has just recently released a new Netflix documentary, How I'm Feeling Now, which explored newly found fame, his mental health and tourettes.

The candid film rose to Netflix Number 1, with celebrities and fans praising him for his vulnerability.

Lewis has revealed how smitten he is in his new relationship with Edinburgh born actress Ellie MacDowall, 23, as he spoke of how she is a "lovely lady".

The star said: "I have a girlfriend and that’s going really well, I am happy chappy, she’s a lovely lady I feel good about everything.”

The couple were first pictured together back in November, while on a night out followed by a romantic dinner in the early hours of the morning. They were later pictured at the BRITs afterparty in February.

During the Radio 2 interview, Lewis revealed that his latest single Wish You the Best, which comes out ahead of his second album release, is a break-up song. The star had previously dated Scots Love Island winner Paige Turley.

He says: “It’s about someone moving on and that feeling where you know it’s the best thing for that person.

“But all you say is ‘good luck I’m really happy for you’ but actually you are dying inside and want to tell them all the things you miss about them and why they should stay with you - so just a really happy song for the summer!”
