Happy birthday Prasoon Joshi: These lines from his top songs will leave you wanting...

Prasoon Joshi, who celebrates his 45th birthday on Friday, is a common man’s poet: He talks about complex emotions in straight terms, without depending on unnecessary allegories to make his verses appear flowery. This is where he scores over other lyricists who first fix a tagline and then create a song around it.

Also one of the biggest names in the Indian advertising business, Joshi is like a sunbeam over a city recognised for its skyscrapers. He is there even if he isn’t visible. What makes his songs click with us? He collaborates vintage thoughts with an ultra modern approach.

On his 45th birthday, we acknowledge the master craftsman’s contribution to Hindi film lyrics. Here’s a list of his top six songs: Each of them a winner which leaves us with a range of emotions so close to our heart.
