Elsewhere during the semi-final, countries including Romania, Estonia, Belgium, Cyprus, Iceland, Greece, Poland, Slovenia, Georgia, San Marino, Austria, Albania, Lithuania and Australia hoped to win a spot.

The second semi-final comes just days after Ireland's entry, Wild Youth were sent home as one of the five hopefuls who hadn't managed to secure a place.

Hoping to win the crown for the UK is Mae Muller with her hit I Wrote A Song, following on from Sam Ryder's success at the 2022 competition.

Mae has received widespread praise since it emerged that she would be representing the UK, with leading body language expert Darren Stanton praising the star.

Speaking on behalf of Betfair, he said: "I would definitely say that Mae has a strong chance of winning the show, based on her levels of confidence and self-assurance.

"Obviously, performance is one thing, but her demeanour and presence on stage also has a massive impact, as well as a song choice.

"I think these elements coupled together, with the fact she’s on UK turf, means she stands a very good chance of making an impact on the leaderboard."

Darren continued: "Mae has spoken about being overwhelmed with support, and this could be the fact it’s on UK soil. Overall, as an individual, we see somebody that is not taking the competition too seriously as such, however, it’s clear that she works very hard and has done to get to this position."
