Hank Marvin of The Shadows and Queen's Roger Taylor release charity cover of Let There Be Drums

Hank Marvin and Queen's Roger Taylor have joined forces on a charity cover of 'Let There Be Drums'

Hank Marvin of The Shadows and Queen's drummer Roger Taylor have put their own spin on '60s surf rock classic ‘Let There Be Drums’ in aid of charity.

The legendary musicians are joined by special guests the Kodo Drummers of Japan on the cover of the 1961 hit for Sandy Nelson, which is part of the ‘Think Loud 4 Parkinson’s’ compilation organised by veteran music manager Ian Grant, who was diagnosed with the progressive neurological condition in 2016.

Grant said: “Man, this was so cool. I've met many a hero, but Hank is extra special because he is a hero’s hero.”

The song comes with a music video by the man behind Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’.

Nigel Dick said: "I knew it was an opportunity too good to pass up. I contacted every drummer I knew, pitched them the idea, and every one of them said yes without hesitation.”

The montage features drummers Vinnie Colaiuta (Joni Mitchell, Frank Zappa) Eric Manegold (Chuck Berry) and Simon Phillips (The Who).

‘Think Loud 4 Parkinson’s’ also features the likes of Paul Carrack, The Waterboys, John Cooper Clarke and Leo Sayer.

The project received the backing of Ozzy Osbourne, who has Parkinson's, and Pete Townshend of The Who.

Money raised from the song will benefit the UK charity Cure Parkinson’s, which is also in for a huge donation from Ozzy and Black Sabbath's star-studded final concert, 'Back To The Beginning', at Birmingham's Villa Park on July 5.

'Think Loud 4 Parkinson’s' is available now on physical and digital formats. Purchase via https://slinky.to/ThinkLoudforParkinsons.
