Handover of Taoiseach role back to Leo Varadkar delayed due to attendance at crunch meeting

The Government has decided to delay the proposed Taoiseach and Cabinet reshuffle, the Irish Mirror has learned.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Tánaiste Leo Varadkar were expected to swap roles on December 15.

However, due to a European Council meeting in Brussels the same day, the reshuffle has had to be postponed to allow Mr Martin to travel.

Senior Government sources confirmed to The Mirror on Wednesday evening that the Government has agreed that the date for the changeover to elect a new Taoiseach will take place on Saturday December 17.

Ministers are also expected to be reshuffled as part of the changeover.

The only confirmed position to date is that Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe will be rotating to the Department of Public Expenditure.
