A manhunt is currently underway in Florida following a daring escape by a handcuffed suspect who complained of chest pains and fled from a hospital in a waiting Maserati. The suspect, identified as Theodric Collins, aged 36, was initially taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol at the Port of Miami due to multiple out-of-state warrants, as reported by the Miami-Dade Police Department.
Collins, who had complained of chest pains while in custody, was subsequently taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital for evaluation. After being medically cleared just before 2:30 p.m., a Miami-Dade officer was in the process of transporting Collins to the department's Warrants Bureau when the suspect managed to escape to a waiting silver Maserati parked outside, despite still being handcuffed.
The Maserati, which bore an Alabama license plate, was last detected by a license plate reader in Jupiter, Florida, according to police sources. Reports indicate that Collins has a history of run-ins with the law, having been previously arrested in Mississippi for felony shoplifting, reckless driving, fleeing from police, and property theft. In a separate incident in 2023, he was also arrested in Alabama after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase.
Authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding the specific warrants issued for Collins. The ongoing manhunt has sparked concerns among law enforcement agencies as they work to locate and apprehend the escaped suspect.
