An alleged thief, who targeted the home of a woman in the process of moving out, has been arrested after leaving his phone near the crime scene, police said.
The man allegedly entered the house at Edwardstown in Adelaide's south and stole the resident's handbag, which contained items including her car and house keys, phone and bank cards.
The woman reported the theft, from the Fuller Street property, about 8pm yesterday.
The suspect rode off from the scene on a bicycle before the woman "found two mobile phones, not belonging to her, on the footpath where she had seen the offender get on the bike", police said.
After using one of the phones to identify the suspect, and then securing a search warrant, police went to a nearby Edwardstown address and arrested a 30-year-old man.
Senior Constable Rebecca Stokes said the victim's handbag, and its contents, have since been returned to her.
"She'd left the house wide open, as she was in the process of moving out and that's when the opportunistic thief struck," she said.
He was charged with serious criminal trespass and theft and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court.
