Hammer-wielding thug in Glasgow's east end demanded money in robbery attempt

A hammer-wielding thug allegedly used the weapon to threaten a pair of men in an attempted robbery, in Glasgow's city centre, last week.

The victims were walking along London Road, near to Bridgeton Cross, when they were approached by an unidentified man at around 3.35am on Wednesday June 28.

The man, said to have spoken with a local Glasgow accent, allegedly brandished a hammer before threatening the victims demanding money and a mobile phone.

He is described as white and between 20 to 30-years-old and was wearing a black jacket with a white or reflective trim, a black hat or balaclava, light coloured jogging bottoms and white trainers.

Police Scotland said the thug was carrying a claw hammer or similar item with a black handle. The victims were able to make off on foot with nothing stolen and without any injuries.

Officers are now appealing for information to help with their investigation into the attempted robbery.

Constable Ross Gallacher said: “Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and I would urge anyone with information or who may have seen or heard a disturbance to get in touch.

“You can call 101, quoting reference 0464 of 28 June, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
