Hamilton, the West End’s hottest musical, announces six-week run at Sunderland Empire

Hamilton, one of the West End’s most popular musicals, has announced that it will come to Sunderland Empire as it continues its UK tour.

The production, which often sells out in London, confirmed that the show will arrive in Sunderland for six weeks in June 2025.

Now, a number of venues around the country have announced that the production will be adding more cities to its touring schedule, including our own Sunderland. It was recently announced that it would perform a 15-week run in Manchester and was met with huge demand.

The venue first shared a teaser image that read, “Wait for It”, referencing one of the songs in the show. It was captioned “18.4.23” and fans are already excited about seeing the show in the North East. It has then shared a short clip confirming the 2025 dates.

Fans can settle in for the show between June 17 2025 and July 26 2025. Tickets will go on sale soon with the venue telling fans to keep an eye on social media for exact dates.

It is expected that demand for the show will be extremely high with fans rushing to snap up the tickets. The production regularly sells out for performances at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London's West End.

Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton is billed as "the story of America then, told by America now". The ground-breaking production features a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, which takes the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton to create a revolutionary moment in theatre.

Known for the diversity of its cast, it has been hailed as a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education, and has won a clutch of top awards including The Olivier, Tony, Grammy and Pulitzer.

Fans will be thrilled to get into The Room Where It Happens - one of the fan-favourite songs - when the production comes to Sunderland. “Excellent news for the city,” said one fan on Twitter.

Another said: “Amazing! Great news for Sunderland”. Theatre lovers on Instagram were just as excited, with many tagging their friends to prepare for tickets going on sale.

Ticket news is still to be announced, but fans were able to pick up tickets for the dates in Manchester for as little as £13. The most expensive tickets clocked in at £180 for a package ticket including a top-tier seat and drinks.
