Hamilton star happy to make SWPL 1 comeback after knee injury hell

Chloe Muir is hoping to play a part in Hamilton’s SWPL 1 survival bid after overcoming two knee injuries.

An ACL and MCL blow kept her out of action for 10 months, and after returning to Gary Doctor’s side this season, she suffered a torn patella tendon.

While it was a challenge mentally to overcome, she was delighted to get back in the fold during Sunday’s league match with Rangers.

Despite a spirited performance, Rangers ran out 4-0 winners in their quest for the league title thanks to a double from Kayla McCoy and goals from Jane Ross and Janni Arnth.

Accies are rooted to the bottom of SWPL 1. Despite holding a game in hand over ninth-placed Hearts, they are eight points adrift ahead of facing Aberdeen this weekend.

Muir is over her injury problems and hopes to keep herself out on the park.

She said: “It was great to be back, but it was weird, as I am that used to sitting in the stands watching the team. It was good to be involved.

“I came back from the first injury for two months and then I’ve been out for over a month. So it was good to be back properly.

“The first one was my ACL and MCL ligaments in my knee. I was out for around 10 months and when I came back, I tore my patella tendon.

“That held me back but that is now healed. I am trying to get my fitness back. I did the first injury in 2020 and there is still pain there, but not enough to put me back.

“It was frustrating and it’s been up and down. You need to not be scared like I was the first time coming back. It’s always in your head.

“You can’t have that mindset. You have to prove to yourself you should be back training and starting games.”
