Hamilton musical set to tour UK for the first time as fans cross fingers for North East date

Hamilton is set to tour the UK for the first time, with two venues confirmed so far as excited fans hold their breath for a date in their home city.

The hit musical from Lin-Manuel Miranda will be heading to Manchester's Palace Theatre for a 15-week run from November this year, before going on to Edinburgh's Festival Theatre for nine weeks from February 2024. Tickets for the new shows go on sale on March 13, with organisers promising that further tour dates for additional cities will be announced "soon".

The multi award-winning show, which follows the story of America's Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, has had a home in London's West End at the Victoria Palace Theatre since December 2017. The musical has bagged 11 Tony Awards including Best Musical, seven Olivier Awards, the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.

Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the script, music and lyrics for Hamilton over a period of several years, after being inspired by a biography of Alexander Hamilton. The 43-year-old star is also known for Broadway musical In The Heights, as well as being behind the soundtracks of the Disney films Moana and Encanto, and made his directorial debut with Tick, Tick... Boom! starring Andrew Garfield.

After first appearing Off-Broadway in Manhattan in 2015, the musical has also gone on to stage productions across the US, Canada, Australia and Germany. After the news was announced on the Hamilton Facebook page, fans were sent into a frenzy by the exciting announcement - with many begging the show to visit their home city, including several in the North East.

"Please add Newcastle/Sunderland to your list of venues!" one person begged.

Another wrote: "PLEASE say you're coming to Newcastle or Sunderland!" Fans can sign up for priority booking for the confirmed venues on the Hamilton website.
