World-famous Broadway musical Hamilton has come to Roblox, an app that allows users to play a wide variety of games, create games, as well as chat with others online.
In the Hamilton Simulator, players can use their own avatars to interact with the musical’s characters, at no extra charge.
There are 10 playable levels set during the Revolutionary War, starting at the New York docks with the aim of breaking America from British rule.
“Hamilton has global recognition. Roblox has 66 million daily active users from all around the world. What a perfect match,” commented Matt Edelman, president and chief commercial officer for Super League, the company that designed and built the online experience in collaboration with Small World Games.
This isn’t the first major collaboration for Roblox either, with Mattel, the NFL, Dave & Buster’s, and Cirque du Soleil all having their own brands featured on the platform, as well as fashion labels Vans, Ralph Lauren, Nike, Tommy Hilfiger, Givenchy, and Gucci.
In the Hamilton Simulator, players assemble a squad from popular characters in the musical. You might start off with figures like James Madison and Charles Lee, before moving on to more valuable characters like Maria Reynolds and Angelica Schuyler as you progress.
Passing levels and succeeding at tasks will earn you coins, which can then be used to better arm companions as you face stronger and stronger enemies.
There are 10 settings throughout the game, including a tavern, George Washington’s office, town squares, the ballroom where Hamilton and Angelica fall in love, and the Battle of Yorktown.
Each level has songs from the musical to match those locations, such as Guns and Ships, You’ll Be Back, and The Schuyler Sisters.
“For us, being able to allow the player to connect to the characters and the music was really important. And that really inspired the general approach to the gameplay,” Edelman said.
The Hamilton Simulator currently concludes around the midpoint of the musical, leaving room for the collaboration to grow.
“We have plenty more in the future to expand on and we’re really excited about what we can do with this experience moving forward over the coming months to really be able to expand gameplay, expand the story, and really be able to listen to our players and what are they doing,” Edelman added.
