Hamilton boxer Jordan Grant admits he doesn’t know much about opponent Michal Gazdik ahead of his Hydro bout on Friday night, but insists it doesn’t matter who it is.
Grant returns to the Glasgow venue on the undercard of Hannah Rankin’s title defence, on a massive FightZone platform, and is looking to exorcise a defeat against Commonwealth Games bronze medallist John Docherty back in February.
His Slovakian opponent at 38 is looking for his first win in some time, but Grant says he doesn’t care who he gets put in the ring with.
He told Lanarkshire Live Sport : “I don’t really know a thing about him, but I’ve only got one outcome and that’s getting the victory, so it doesn’t really matter who they put me in with.
“I think I’ve proved that, with the fights I’ve taken on, that it doesn’t really matter what the name is.
“I’ll take anybody on and try and beat them, so this is just another guy who I’m going in with.
“He will also be looking to do well, though, so I’ll need to be on the ball.”
Grant took on a fighter who was at least a level above when he clashed with Docherty in February, with his opponent delivering a ‘perfect punch’ to his stomach to end the fight.
He wants to atone for that, but knows that he was brave to take it on in the first place.
“I’ve got something to prove at the Hydro, it will not sit right with me if I leave without changing the result from last time,” he said.
“I knew, taking on the John Docherty fight, that it was a step up, but it was one I was willing to take.
“As I say, I’ll take any challenge on.
“It was all learning. I knew taking on John what level he was at, but I always back myself. I just fell short that night, but that doesn’t mean in the future I’ll not get to that level again.
“I believe that I will.”
Following Friday’s bout, Grant says there might be some exciting news coming for the summer, but he’s not thinking about that right now.
“I’m looking forward to this one, looking forward to putting things right, getting back to winning ways and looking forward to see what comes in the summer,” he said.
“There are some things in the background that are going on, and we might have a Scottish title fight.
“But I just want to focus on this fight, get this one out the road, and we can take it from there.
“I’m not going to look too far ahead, but when the opportunity arises, I’ll take it.”
