Hamilton Women’s boss Gary Doctor says his side deserved a momentous 1-0 SWPL 1 victory over derby rivals Motherwell following a difficult campaign.
The New Douglas Park side were promoted to the top flight of women’s football last year and their first season since has proven difficult.
But there was joy at Fir Park in front of almost 700 fans as Chloe Muir struck to seal a first victory since beating Hearts way back in September.
It hands Doctor’s side a boost ahead of their final five matches, which start on Sunday at home to Celtic.
Doctor hopes it can provide a springboard to more positive results during SWPL 1’s home straight.
He said: “The overriding emotion on reflection is a bit of relief to get a win after so long. We have had loads of conversations as we have been playing okay. We have been highly competitive.
“It’s been about that next step. We didn’t feel we played all that well in the first half and got a bit better in the second. It’s funny that sometimes that is enough to win a game.
“I thought the attitude of the players was bang on. There were a few nerves early on but I thought in the second half we were excellent and controlled.
“We made it hard for Motherwell to fashion a chance. We frustrated them and then we had something to lose for the first time in a while.
“The players deserve it after the effort they’ve put in over long winter months. Hopefully we finish the season positively.”
