Hamilton apologise over 'The Glasgow Rangers' signing post

Hamilton Academical chiefs have issued an apology for any offence caused in a social media post announcing the signing of Ben Williamson from 'The Glasgow Rangers'.

The club came under criticism for the wording of the signing announcement on Friday.

The League One side completed a move for midfielder Williamson, 22, for an undisclosed fee after the January transfer window opened.

However, it was the wording of his signing announcement that garnered the attention of social media users.

Rangers were named as The Glasgow Rangers FC in the transfer announcement leaving supporters of the Ibrox club unhappy and rival supporters revelling in the wording.

The initial post had read: "We are delighted to announce we have now fully completed the signing of Ben Williamson to Hamilton Academical FC.

"We have agreed an undisclosed fee with The Glasgow Rangers FC for the player. We thank The GRFC for their cooperation."

However, chairman John Brown has now apologised to "anyone who was offended" and insisted there was "absolutely no intention on our part to cause any upset or to imply any disrespect".

A statement on X, formely Twitter, signed by chairman Brown read: "Hamilton Academical FC would like to apologise to anyone who was offended with the wording of a recent social media post where we were really delighted to announce the signing of Ben Williamson.

"There was absolutely no intention on our part to cause any upset or to imply any disrespect to anyone/any club with our communication."
