Reegan Minnaugh insists Hamilton Accies are "too good to go down" after defeat in Dundee kept them rock bottom of the Championship.
Paul McMullan's strike after 57 minutes was all that separated the sides at Dens Park on Saturday but it inflicted a ninth defeat in 16 games on Accies this season, while John Rankin's men have one just once in their last 11 games.
The statistics don't make good reading and neither does the league table, with Accies a point adrift of 11th place Arbroath going into this week's break for Scottish Cup action at home to Lowland League East Kilbride.
But Mimnaugh - who somehow didn't equalise when his thumping 25-yard strike hit the bar and both posts before being cleared - is adamant Accies have the quality to turn their fortunes around.
He said: "We just need a wee bit of luck on our side.
“I thought I’d scored. It should actually be impossible to hit the bar and the post and then the other post.
“Chucky [Andy Ryan] is standing there and on any other day it drops to him and he taps it in. It's frustrating but we can't feel sorry for ourselves.
“This team is too good to go down.
"We have a lot of experienced people in there who have been at the bottom of the table so I’m sure we will be fine.
"We just need a couple of results to get us moving up the table.
"The league is so tight. Anybody can beat anybody in this league so as soon as you pick up a couple of results you can go straight back up the table.
"We need to find that first result to kick us on. We just need to pick ourselves up now."
It has been the story of Hamilton's season so far, where failing to take their chances has come back to bite them.
However, midfielder Mimnaugh says there is still plenty of belief and positivity within the ranks.
He added: "The fight is still there and you can see that. It's just putting wee bits together in the final third and tidying up individual mistakes at the back, then I'm sure it will all fall into place.
"The experienced players are vital at this time. Easty [Brian Easton], Chucky and Scott Martin. They all get us going.
"There is no negativity in the dressing room or anything like that.
"We've been playing better the last few games. We just need to pick up the results now."
