Hamilton Accies secure defender on contract extension

Hamilton Accies have extended the contract of defender Jamie Hamilton until the end of next season.

The 20-year-old broke through to the first team in 2019, and has played more than 60 ties since.

Hamilton, who has been injured, will join fellow new signing Regan Thomson in undergoing an intense training programme to get him up to speed, before being integrated to the first team squad again.

Hamilton told the club's website: "I am really pleased to have signed a new contract at this club.

"I have learned a lot in my time here, both on and off the pitch, and I want to continue creating special moments with our supporters.

"For me, I just want to get back to playing football.

"There is a lot of competition for places and that is something which I think will improve me.

"IK know that when I get my opportunity to play I have to be ready to step up and kick on."

Head coach John Rankin said: "I am really pleased to have Jamie as part of our squad. We all know how good a player he can be and for his age he has a good level of experience at first-team level.

"I have spoken with him a couple of times since becoming head coach, and he knows exactly what I expect from him.

"I would like to take the time to thank [chairman] Allan Maitland and the rest of the board, who have worked tirelessly to secure this new contract."
