Hamilton Accies legend hammered with 10-game ban for betting breaches

Hamilton Accies legend Dougie Imrie has been handed a 10-game ban on the eve of him taking his high-flying Morton team to New Douglas Park for a Championship showdown.

Imrie, 38, is one of five Scottish football stars who have been hammered by the Scottish FA, though 14 were cited by the judicial panel last month.

The Morton boss, who has just landed the Manager of the Month award for January, faced six different charges from between 2011 and 2020 and has been slapped with an immediate six-game ban, with four more suspended until the end of next season.

Imrie was at Accies from 2010 to 2012, St Mirren from 2012-13, Morton 2013-14, and back to Accies from 2014-19, before retiring from playing.

The majority of the breaches relate to Disciplinary Rule 31, which states: "No club, official, team official or other member of team staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall gamble in any way on a football match."

One of the other four to have been found guilty is Cove Rangers assistant Gordon Young - who was previously a youth coach at Motherwell, and who has been handed the same punishment as Imrie.
