Hamilton Accies driven by Partick revenge mission, says boss Stuart Taylor after thrashing Thistle

Hamilton boss Stuart Taylor revealed his players' desire to avenge a heavy defeat to Partick earlier in the season was their inspiration for thrashing Thistle at Firhill.

Accies cruised to a 4-0 win over the Jags thanks to Andy Ryan's double, plus strikes from David Moyo and Andy Winter.

It inflicted the heaviest defeat of the season on Partick, as Accies claimed their first success over Ian McCall's men after two defeats and a draw previously.

And Taylor confessed his players were driven to succeed by the painful 6-1 thumping his side suffered at home back in October.

He revealed: "It was something the lads brought up before the game.

"They felt it [the 6-1 defeat] should be a motivation for today to go and get a win because we've done really well against Partick in the past and come away with only a point until today.

"Going in at half-time they spoke about remembering how sore it was for our supporters, so they wanted to go out and get more goals - and we went one better by going and getting a clean sheet as well.

"In fairness to the lads that was their motivation and I was over the moon for them that they achieved what they set out to get."

Partick's atrocious Firhill surface didn't make for free-flowing football, but Taylor was well-aware that would be the case and praised his players for how they handled it against a Jags side missing a number of key players through injury, including top scorer Brian Graham.

Taylor added: "We knew coming here that we had to play the pitch and play a different type of way.

"And I'll be the first person to admit there wasn't an ounce of football played.

"But we had to make sure it was an Arbroath-like performance from us, where we were winning battles and second balls, and putting the ball into areas that would cause them problems.

"I thought we did that from the first minute to the last.

"We played the pitch really well and we were ruthless and both ends of the park, which was great to see."

Accies are now up to seventh in the table and nine points clear of the relegation play-offs, while 10 adrift of the promotion play-offs.

They host ninth-place Queen of the South next week, but Taylor insists there's only one direction his side are looking.

He stressed: "I'm looking above and what we can do if we get points on the board.

"We've got Morton three points in front of us and we'll just push on and try to catch them, make sure that we pick up as many points as we can before teh end of the season.

"We look to win every game we play in and that's the target.

"We are looking above as we always have done."
