Hamilton Accies don't lose when Andy Winter scores, so he wants more goals

Andy Winter says he’s the man to fire Hamilton Accies back up the Championship table – because they don’t lose when he scores.

The 20-year-old bagged his fourth league goal of the season from a penalty to down high-flying Morton 1-0, giving Accies their first league win since beating Inverness on October 18, spanning seven straight defeats, and ending a goal drought from himself that goes back to that 1-0 victory in the Highlands.

Winter also netted in a 4-4 draw with Cove Rangers on October 29, and a 2-2 draw at Ayr on August 13, meaning eight of Hamilton's 14 points have come in games when he has scored.

He also scored three times in the Premier Sports Cup group stages, in a 5-2 win over Stranraer, 3-0 triumph against Forfar and a 1-1 draw with Queen’s Park.

Winter hopes that if he goes on a scoring streak, Hamilton will take points.

He said: “I think every time I’ve scored we’ve not been beat, so if I get a goal and the team hold on, we can do well.

“I think that has been the case for a while now, so I want to get more goals, and then we don’t lose games.

“It’s massive to get goals – that’s what I’m here to do – but the win was the most important thing.

“Goals haven’t been flying in from anybody, and that’s what I’m always looking to do in the team.

“We have to be honest with ourselves; we know we’ve not been scoring enough goals, and not just us up front, so we need to keep creating chance and they will come.”

Winter says the addition of midfielder Tom Sparrow and defender Dylan McGowan on loan deals from Stoke City and Kilmarnock, respectively, have given the whole club a lift and hopes that continues.

The emergence of midfielder Lucas De Bolle following a concussion issue has also helped.

Winter said: “The new players have given us a lift. I don’t think it’s any secret that we’ve been lacking numbers this season, and those two coming in have been a massive help.

“Dylan at the back has a lot of experience in the game, and Tom fills in that position where we kind of need someone.

“They’ve both been brilliant since they’ve come in, and hopefully that continues.

“Lucas gives us that calmness on the ball and that wee bit of composure in the final third.

“We’ve been crying out for a player like that, and hopefully he just keeps putting in those performances and I’m sure we’ll do well.”
