Hamilton Accies boss bringing signing target into training this week

Hamilton boss John Rankin is running the rule over a potential signing in training this week.

Accies are desperate to strengthen their squad in January to help their bid to avoid relegation from the Championship, and the club are working on bringing in two or three reinforcements.

Friday's night's 2-0 defeat at Cove Rangers has left rock bottom Accies three points adrift of Arbroath in the relegation play-off spot (with a game in hand) and 10 points away from safety.

They are now preparing to host Raith Rovers on Monday in their first match of 2023 and Rankin will have a potential signing in the building as they work towards the clash.

Rankin is remaining tight-lipped on exactly who he is looking at but told Lanarkshire Live Sport : "You can never confirm anything until the ink is dry but we are working extremely hard.

"It's not just a case of bringing players in on Monday morning and throwing them in. They need to come in the early part of this week so they can be ready.

"There is one player in training who came in last week and went away, but he will be coming back in again this week.

"I can't say what position he is for but he is a foreigner who is over here just now for us to take a look at.

"We've seen lots of footage of him, but we are now getting a close look at him."
