Dan O’Reilly says Hamilton beating Dundee on Saturday would put a marker down in their fight to avoid relegation from the Championship.
And the Irish defender says one or two wins for John Rankin’s side would make a huge difference in their fight.
Accies, currently on bottom spot, travel to Dens Park to take on a Dundee side sitting third, and which has recorded a 2-0 league win and 3-0 Premier Sports Cup group stages victory already this season.
O’Reilly knows it’s going to be a difficult match, but says Accies go into it with confidence.
He said: “It would put down a marker if we could beat Dundee – big time.
“In the current situation we need to start getting wins and results.
“We do have confidence going into games, even if it’s away at Dundee, or as you saw at Inverness a few weeks ago, so it definitely would put a marker down.
“There is a determination to get away from bottom spot.
“We have a good group. Obviously we have to stick together, regardless, but things are starting to change for ourselves, in terms of how we’re playing and the positivity with our own play.
“I think once we get a win or two it will really start to push us on, so please God that will be it.”
Hamilton lost 3-2 to Championship leaders Ayr United on Friday, and while they received some plaudits for their performance, O’Reilly says points are more important.
“I’d be lying if I didn’t say even if we didn’t play well and we got a win, you’d rather that over playing well and not,” he said.
“In that sense you can say ‘look, we played well but didn’t get a result’ but it just depends on the game.
“We want to bring our game to them, sometimes it doesn’t work out like that, but we’ll be going into it, looking to get a good result on Saturday.”
