Hamilton Academical have stated they will take "full responsibility" and confessed their deepest disappointment after their player was involved in a serious incident.
Kyle MacDonald pleased guilty to two sexual assault charges last month - both related to a night out at Glasgow's Wunderbar in September 2023.
Yet it was revealed the midfielder featured for Accies during a Scottish Championship play-off victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle just days later.
Hamilton claim the man involved has shown remorse for his actions and going forward they will clamp down on such horrific behaviour.
A stern club statement said: "We acknowledge that one of our players has been involved in an incident of serious misjudgement in relation to a reported sexual offence which was in yesterdays press.
"We are deeply disappointed by this behavior, as it goes against the values and standards that we uphold as a Professional Football Club. Furthermore, we take full responsibility for addressing this issue honestly & transparently.
"Our player has expressed sincere and genuine remorse for his actions and he has also cooperated fully with the investigations held both by the Club and the authorities since the incident.
"We are committed to supporting him through this process, while also emphasising the importance of accountability and learning from this experience.
"Moving forward, we will take every step that we can to demonstrate and reinforce the cultures of respect and responsibility that lie with everyone employed by or involved with our Football Club, to prevent such incidents from happening again."
