Hamilton 0, Queen's Park 2: Wasteful Accies fall into Spiders' trap

Hamilton fell to their second Championship defeat of the season as Queen's Park ran out comfortable winners at New Douglas Park.

Simon Murray and Grant Savoury struck either side of the interval to put Owen Coyle's side on easy street, despite Hamilton having actually created the better chances.

But the hosts only have themselves to blame, as the Spiders took all three points.

Hamilton dominated the first half and had the better chances, but didn't take them when they came along.

Dario Zanatta hit the post and forced a couple of decent saves from Spiders keeper Calum Ferrie, while Andy Winter and Lewis Smith both went close for the hosts.

Queen's Park didn't perform a smash-and-grab, though, with Jonny Kenny going close on three occasions, while Dom Thomas and and Jack Thomson both had chances.

After Hamilton twice went close early in the second half, Queen's Park simply wrapped up the points through a terrific Savoury strike.

That seemingly took the heart out of Hamilton, with Queen's Park dominating thereafter.

Hamilton head coach John Rankin kept faith with the side that drew 2-2 with Cove Rangers a fortnight ago.

His Queen's Park counterpart Owen Coyle made two changes to his line-up that lost to Dundee last time out. David Boateng and Johnny Kenny came in for Jake Davidson and Scott Williamson.

Queen's Park had the first decent chance in seven minutes, but Johnny Kenny sent a low shot inches past the left post.

Hamilton created a good chance three minutes later when a throw-in from Scott Martin on the left created space for Dario Zanatta, but he was crowded out by defenders.

Queen's Park had another go in 18 minutes when Grant Savoury set up Jack Thomson, but he drove wide of the left post from a decent position on the right.

Accies created the best chance of the game in 22 minutes when Zanatta linked well with Winter and took the return, checked inside David Boateng but sent his low shot off the left post.

The ball pinballed around the box, with Zanatta seeing his low shot well parried by Calum Ferrie.

Zanatta had another go three minutes later, but Ferrie saved his low shot at the left post corner.

Queen's Park went close in 28 minutes when Dom Thomas went on a run, but his shot was well held by Ryan Fulton, with Simon Murray waiting to pounce.

Kenny went close moments later, seeing his shot whistle across the goal from the left, with Fulton beat.

The on-loan Celtic kid tried again moments later and again sent a shot across goal from the left, but it landed just wide of the right post.

Steve Lawson's free kick for Accies was cleared only as far as Lewis Smith in 38 minutes, but he sent his shot high and wide from about 20 yards out.

Queen's Park took the lead in 42 minutes when Savoury's free kick hit off the bar, off Fulton, and amid a goalmouth scramble Simon Murray forced the ball over the line.

Hamilton raced up the other end, but Winter's shot landed just wide of the left post.

Winter linked up well with Smith in 48 minutes, but the winger's shot was well held by Ferrie.

Hamilton striker Winter went close moments later, sending a low shot fizzing past the left post.

But Queen's Park doubled their lead in 52 minutes when sub Jake Davidson set up Savoury and he curled a stunning shot into the top left corner.

Lawson nearly scored directly from a corner on the left in 58 minutes, but Ferrie slapped it away from under the bar.

Queen's Park would have scored a third in 61 minutes through Kenny, but for a brilliant block by captain Brian Easton.

Sub Lucas de Bolle had a chance to pull a goal back for Accies on his debut but his low shot was well saved at the left post following a good Accies move.

Andy Winter had one last chance to grab a consolation strike for Accies, but Ferrie saved his low shot.
