Hamas Official Describes Latest Ceasefire Proposal As 'Logical'

Ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas

Hamas official Ghazi Hamad has described the latest ceasefire proposal submitted by the group to mediators as 'logical.' In an interview with Al-Arabiya channel, Hamad, a senior figure in the political bureau of Hamas, stated that their demands have been clearly outlined after extensive discussions with mediators from Qatar and Egypt.

Hamad expressed optimism that the proposal could lead to a breakthrough in negotiations, emphasizing that Hamas has put forth a detailed and written vision that he believes the mediators find convincing. However, he criticized Israel for allegedly prolonging the conflict by refusing to engage in meaningful dialogue.

On the other side, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has indicated a willingness to continue pursuing a ceasefire agreement, despite what he referred to as 'outlandish' demands from Hamas. Netanyahu mentioned a potential deal involving the release of 100 hostages in exchange for a temporary cessation of hostilities.

Hamas recently presented a new set of demands, including the release of a significant number of Palestinian prisoners and the prospect of a permanent ceasefire in the future. Both parties have accused each other of lacking sincerity in the negotiations, while US officials have expressed cautious optimism about the progress of the talks.

The ceasefire discussions have faced challenges, with conflicting views on the feasibility of the proposed terms. While Hamas believes its proposal offers a realistic path to an agreement, Israel has raised concerns about the practicality of meeting certain demands.

As the negotiations continue, the role of the mediators remains crucial in facilitating constructive dialogue between the conflicting parties. The outcome of these talks could have significant implications for the ongoing conflict and the prospects for a lasting peace in the region.
