Halsey has opened up about their experience of suffering multiple miscarriages.
The Without Me singer detailed their journey with three pregnancy losses and explained how their experience had bolstered their support for abortion rights in the US.
They described how their "abortion saved my life and gave way for my son to have his".
Writing in an op-ed at Vogue, they said: "Every person deserves the right to choose when, if, and how they have this dangerous and life-altering experience. I will hold my son in one arm, and fight with all my might with the other."
Halsey, who now has a son who is about to turn one, went on to specifically address the Supreme Court's overturning of the Roe v. Wade ruling, which endowed women with a constitutional right to terminate a pregnancy.
"One of my miscarriages required 'aftercare,' a gentle way of saying that I would need an abortion, because my body could not terminate the pregnancy completely on its own and I would risk going into sepsis without medical intervention," they wrote. "During this procedure, I cried. I was afraid for myself and I was helpless. I was desperate to end the pregnancy that was threatening my life."
According to the National Library of Medicine, medical terms for miscarriage used in billing or insurance claims can include "spontaneous abortions," "missed abortions" and "incomplete abortions".
"My abortion saved my life and gave way for my son to have his," Halsey wrote. "Every person deserves the right to choose when, if, and how they have this dangerous and life-altering experience. I will hold my son in one arm, and fight with all my might with the other."
Halsey openly spoke out against the new ruling at a concert in Phoenix, prompting some to walk out.
In a video shared by Twitter user @stephxvg, Haley was seen on stage giving an impassioned speech about abortion rights. "I look at every single one of you and I don't ever want you to ever be in a situation where you won't have access to that," she said.
"Some of the people I'm looking at right now are going to need an abortion one day, and you deserve that. Whether it's a life-threatening situation or it's not, you deserve it.
"And here in Arizona, you guys gotta promise me that you're gonna do that work so that the person to the left of you and to the right of you has that right for the rest of their lives."
Pictures shared on their Instagram show them using the big screen at their concert in California to broadcast a message encouraging action on the issue.
