Halloween in Prison: Erik and Lyle Menendez's Plans for the Spookiest Night of the Year

In Spanish

Erik and Lyle Menendez might be celebrating their last Halloween at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego with newfound hope for freedom on the horizon.

According to entertainment news site TMZ, the Menendez brothers plan to spend the night watching Stephen King's 1990 horror classic 'It,' joined by their cellmates for an evening with Pennywise as the night's "guest star."

To add a prison-style twist, they've planned a "candy salad," mixing available treats like chocolates, candies, chips, and homemade taffy—crafted from creamer and Kool-Aid. Microwave popcorn, soda, and cookies will round out this improvised Halloween celebration. For decoration, they'll drape the common room table with a sheet to create their own Halloween "buffet."

The Menendez celebration joins other Halloween festivities across California prisons, where inmates get into the spirit.

Various correctional facilities have organized "trunk-or-treat" events, where staff decorate cars and distribute candy to visiting families, especially kids. Special days are also set up for inmates to celebrate with loved ones in a festive setting.

Halloween In and Outside Prison

The Menendez brothers are making waves beyond prison walls this year. One popular Halloween costume trend is dressing up as them, inspired by their look in Netflix's 'Monsters' series. Many young people are recreating the 90s vibe with vintage suits, voluminous wigs, and the now iconic sweaters they wore at their court appearances.

The look has become a social media sensation, with memes and videos of people mimicking the brothers' serious demeanor on camera. Some are even celebrating in groups to take the full "Menendez vibe" to a whole new level.

With renewed interest in their case and ongoing appeals, Erik and Lyle are hoping this will be one of their last holiday celebrations behind bars, anticipating future freedom.
