Halle Bailey stuns in fishtail illusion dress at The Little Mermaid premiere

Halle Bailey has left her fans in awe after wearing an elaborate fishtail illusion dress at The Little Mermaid premiere on Monday night (May 8).

Attending the glitzy event ahead of the movie coming out on May 26, the leading lady could be seen posing alongside co-star Melissa McCarthy, with the two actresses wowing onlookers.

The 23-year-old Atlanta-born actress, who plays the role of Princess Ariel in the live-action remake of the Disney classic, channelled the leading character for the premiere of the film.

Halle looked sensational in a shimmering gown by Valdrin Sahiti as she stormed the blue carpet.

The young star wore her hair in braids, with her muted makeup look which comprised of an icy blue eye look and a nude lip.

The dress that Halle donned was in a gorgeous silvery-blue hue and mimicked a mermaid's tail at the bottom.

With a strapless design and elaborate sweetheart neckline, as the starlet posed on the blue carpet she shimmered and sparkled in the glow of the camera flashes.

Speaking to People Magazine ahead of the event, Halle said: "I hope that [Black girls] know they are worthy and we deserve to be in these spaces.

"And I hope that they see themselves in me on the screen. I'm just grateful to be here."

Meanwhile, Halle's co-star Melissa McCarthy, who plays the role of Disney villain Ursula in the movie, opted for a cobalt blue hued frock for the event.

Looking chic in the bold ensemble, she could be seen with her husband Ben Falcone and their oldest daughter, Vivian, 15.

Rapper Offset also attended the event, with his daughters, Kulture Kiari, 4, and Kalea Marie, 8, in attendance and dressed as little princesses.

This comes weeks after leading lady Halle left fans feeling "disappointed" after sharing a controversial Instagram post.

Sharing a series of snaps from her travels, Halle could be seen posing for photos with a selection of exotic animals, with many fans claiming that she was at Safari World in Bangkok.

The animal attraction in question has been under scrutiny for years because of their alleged poor treatment of animals.

Fans were fuming at the star, with nonprofit organisation PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) even wading in.

Many fans urged Halle to take the photos, which amassed more than 800,000 likes, down, but as of today (May 9), the photos remain on her page.

At the time Mirror Online reached out to Halle Bailey's representatives for comment, but received no response.
